Czech European Researchers' Night 2021
LEMMA at Researchers’ Night offered the best of the history of film festivals.
In the sign of the past year, This year's Researchers' Night took place on September 24, partly in person and partially online. Masaryk University participated in the Researchers' Night with an online program, also included in the Laboratory of Electronics and Multimedia Applications (LEMMA). The theme of this year's night of science and knowledge was time. In the form of an online lecture connected with the screening, viewers could get to know more than twenty years of LEMMA's history from the comfort of their home and see the best of student production.
In a short introduction, Associate Professor Sojka, head of LEMMA and founder of the tradition of film festivals, presented the history of the laboratory, its teachers, original techniques, famous graduates, and the beginnings of film festivals. LEMMA is behind the organization of film festivals and offers students at Masaryk University subjects focused on filmmaking at the Faculty of Informatics. Questions were asked by the laboratory student and director of student films Patrik Smolnický. Patrik also talked about what it was like to mentor the film subjects and what it was like to make his own film and organize a film festival.
Subsequently, viewers could see an hour and a half of images throughout the festival's history. The selection was a remarkable example of the diversity of film festivals, with films of all genres, from animated to staged. At the same time, he showed that even though technology changes from year to year literally by mile-long steps, the themes and humour remain timeless and can reach viewers almost twenty years later. The recording of the Researchers' Night can be viewed on the YouTube channel of the Faculty of Informatics of MU.
