About us
The laboratory specializes in technologies for processing and publishing extensive text and multimedia data collections, including the production and post-production of films. It develops new technologies based mainly (but not only) on free software.
The laboratory provides the background for teaching subjects PV110 Basics of Film Narratives, PV113 Production of Audiovisual Artefacts, PV174 Seminar of the LEMMA laboratory and PV114 Production of audiovisual artefacts, PB029 Electronic Document Preparation. LEMMA cooperates with other FI laboratories, especially the Laboratory of Natural Language Processing (text part of publication projects), the Laboratory of Advanced Network Technologies (video editing and transmission), the Laboratory of Speech and Dialogue (dubbing, sound processing), the Laboratory of Human-Computer Interaction (animation) and AGDaM - Graphic Design and Multimedia Studio (graphic design). For spatial reasons (no asylum was found elsewhere in FI: - /) it provides emergency shelter to the MIR research group led by the same leader, as well as to students whose bachelor's, diploma and dissertation theses they lead.
History of the laboratory
The laboratory began to take shape in 1999 while working on the CD All 5 project together for the fifth anniversary of FI. In 2001, the financial assistance of the University Development Fund grant 433/2001 made it possible to build a editing workplace, thus institutionalizing the current activities of the laboratory's founders. In the same year, the tradition of student film festivals was established, based exclusively on the original film works of MU students. In 2004, a multimedia DVD 10 @ FI was created in the laboratory for the tenth anniversary of the founding of FI. In 2006 and 2013, further grants from the Development Fund enabled the innovation of photo-video, computer and presentation technology of the laboratory and FI, and enabled the further operation of the laboratory.
